Sources Monitored Form

The plan is a 4-step process that is easy to follow.  You will likely need to login to your EAS unit and modify your programming to meet the approved plan

First, you’ll need to know if you are an LP/NP/PEP station. If you aren’t sure, you most likely are not.  If you see your call letters in the state plan then you are an LP or NP/PEP station and you should follow that version of the state plan. No cable companies are LP or NP/PEP. Click HERE to view LP/NP Assignments.

  • Step 1 is locating your Operational Area within the appropriate plan.  Look for your county your station is licensed to in the lists on the right.  Once you locate it the name of your Operational Area will be on the left. Note that area and go to Step 2.

  • Step 2 differs for LP/NP/PEP and regular stations.

Regular stations and cable companies should locate their Operational Area and to the right of that are the stations that you can choose from to monitor.  You must monitor at least two stations.  You should monitor the stations that give you the highest quality audio.  You may change who you are currently monitoring at this time.  If for any reason you cannot monitor two of your assigned stations, please contact Mike Murrell at [email protected] as soon as possible to discuss your situation and request a waiver.

LP or NP/PEP stations you will locate your Operational Area and then locate your station.  To the right of it you should see the stations you are assigned to monitor as well as other sources you may be monitoring.  You must monitor your assigned stations.  This may mean changing your current monitoring sources.  If for any reason you are unable to do so, please contact Mike Murrell as soon as possible at [email protected] so the issue can be resolved.

Note that all stations and cable companies must also monitor the NWS via NWR.

  • Step 3 is the list of event codes that the SECC is requesting you add to your stations EAS unit.

The SECC is aware that this list appears to be long and understands your concerns about interruptions to your daily broadcasts.

As you look at the list you will notice the majority of these codes have never been used. Our Goal is to be prepared in case they are ever needed.

We ask that all stations and cable companies include these codes in their EAS units.

We ask that you include these codes in your EAS unit(s) even if you normally go live so they can be rebroadcast in the event no one is able to get to the station.

Adding a slight delay to give your staff time to stop the rebroadcast is acceptable.

  • Step 4 Fill out the Sources Monitored Form accessible at the highlighted link below.

You must fill out one form for each station or cable company location.  Please fill out the form in its entirety as the information will be used to update the FCC version of the plan.

*** We have one more request for stations to help us monitor and resolve missing alerts more quickly and easily.***

If you have a Sage unit please add the following information in the FTP area.  This allows Mike Murrell to see alerts around the state and if your station is having an issue or not.  No one has access to this data but Mike Murrell and Larry Wilkins who is the Director of Engineering in AL. It is only used for  diagnosing issues and the logs are deleted once issues are resolved.

If you do not have a Sage please have your system email [email protected]  The input will be placed in a spread sheet and checked against any issues and then deleted once cleared.

In the web interface for the Sage, click on email/ftp tab and enter the following information in the ftp tab.

ftp host:  ftp.al-ba.com/TNEAS

ftp user:  tabeas

ftp password: TABAlertFM1!

If you have any questions please feel free to contact SECC Chairman Mike Murrell at [email protected] or [email protected]
